The Risks of Playing The Online Casino

There are numerous dangerous and risk associated with playing casinos and generally gambling online. I am not talking about security risks as in people stealing your credit card details or access credentials. I am talking about the gambling itself. Whilst most casinos and online bookmakers do build in a certain amount of security for the users, specifically daily transfer limits, table limits and maximum bets - there is still a lot of room for the player to be careless and risk losing a lot of money.

I think the problem when playing online is that it doesn’t seem like real money. If you have £100 in your online account to play with or £1000 or £10,000 - it just seems like a figure, an insignificant digit which I believe makes you a little bit more careless with your money. If you were in a real casino, you would think twice about placing £1000 in cash down or even £1000 in physical chips, but online, it’s just the click of a button and the digit moved in your balance. It doesn’t seem real - until you lose and your bank statement tells you differently.

This I think is the biggest risk associated with gambling online. I do not fear for the experienced players who know the value of money and bet responsibly, but I do fear for people with large credit cards who can continue to plough £1000 after £1000 into their accounts and not give it a second thought until their credit card bill comes through the post.

Of course, this isn’t the fault of the Casino themselves. If people want to gambling they should have the right to gamble. I am just saying that by doing so online, a certain element of protection is removed and you do not take it as seriously as playing with real cash.

Online Advantage - Try Before You Play

If there is one huge advantage that online casinos have when compared to their offline counterparts, it’s the ability to let their users / members try a game for free before they play with real money. This is obviously something offline casinos cannot offer. All of the online casinos out there offer you all of their games in two modes. Real Play and Free Play. Using the Free Play option, you can play the game using test credits, just as you would if you were playing for real money. This is a great way for you to experience betting on table games such as Roulette, BlackJack and Craps if you’ve never done so before and would like to get some practise in. It’s also a good way to learn the online slots. Time and time again I try out a new slot using free credits first to see what the feature board looks like and what I need to do in order to get a good return. You obviously cannot do this in a real casino, you have to insert your money or chips and hope for the best.

Some people also use free mode just for fun. Lots of people like playing slots and other casino related games but don’t always want to risk their money in doing so. The free play option is perfect for this. I myself have spent many hours seeing exactly how high I can get my account balance playing BlackJack or Roulette by placing dangerous bets that you wouldn’t dream of doing in the real world. It’s great fun as long as you don’t carry it over to real play!
